• So Far and Yet, Closer – Workers Say Access to Leaders Improved During Pandemic

While the pandemic drove workers apart physically, it brought greater access for many employees to their leaders. In some ways, pandemic-induced changes to how we work served as a great equalizer: employees who had previously been floors away from their executives found themselves in adjacent boxes on screen; more frequent and universal corporate communications replaced informal “inner circle” channels; and employees at all levels of the organization benefited from access to the same suite of virtual tools. As companies open their physical doors to in-person work or hybrid models, they should acknowledge that many employees felt that remote work opened the (virtual) door to increased communication and connection, and seek ways to maintain greater interaction and access across the organization.
